Friday 7th August marked the return of Friday Night Weird Dreams, our improvised, and until recently, prolific group that is largely based on improvised sessions that change direction and members with each recording. It had been 10 months since we released a session, with life, a pandemic and other things getting in our way.

It was nice to get together, abeit tricky with the pandemic precautions that a playing band needs to take in an enclosed space. Both Matt and I have evolved our setup to take in more modular equipment of late, and this is evident in the session. The picture above shows the equipment I played for the session, largely using the turntable to set the clock for the performances (sent to Matt’s synths too) and triggering samples based on a range of themes, radio, American preachers, allsorts to be honest. My modular has two samplers of sorts, in addition to the usual SP404. That morning the postman delivered a second Korg SQ1 which also drove a lot of the cv sequences we needed. Anyway, have a listen, we really enjoyed being back in the studio despite the obvious restictions.
