The Year The Earth Stood Still

Back in June I was approached for a contribution to an online festival (World Harmony Festival) by The Front Room (local spoken word and music platform in Portsmouth). I wanted to look at the idea of the earth standing still. Couple this with a video element, rather than a live performance, and I started to consider variations on what the theme could be. I do love a brief! Their themes included Earth, Wind and Fire (maybe??!) (something like that!), so I took to recording some time-lapse videos and secured some space/satellite footage along the way, thanks as always to for c.c. footage.

The result was a short film, aiming for a claustrophobic vibe. I was after the feeling of nothing moving, changing – maybe a response to the last few months. The sound is completely improvised and in response to the images. Most sounds were made by various handmade contraptions and tape loops and processed with guitar pedals in one sitting.
